Advancing Mental Health Equity with Gypsy, Roma, Traveller+ Therapists

Updated: 6 days ago

Within the Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller community, accessing culturally sensitive and relevant mental health support can be a significant challenge. Which is why, The Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller+ Therapists Network is working diligently to address this disparity and advance mental health equity for marginalised individuals.

Our organisation is dedicated to supporting counsellors, mental health practitioners, and therapists from Gypsy, Roma and Traveller+ backgrounds along with allies. Through a range of advocacy and initiatives, we aim to foster a more inclusive and culturally aware mental health support system tailored to the needs of these communities.

We provide professional development and training programs to support both therapists from within the community and wider organisations in building their knowledge and skills. The Gypsy, Roma and Traveller+ Therapists Network also facilitates community building and peer support opportunities. By creating spaces for connection, collaboration, and shared learning, we help reduce professional isolation and strengthen the presence of these voices within the mental health field.

Advocacy and awareness are central to our mission. By highlighting the unique mental health needs of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller+ communities and pushing for equitable organisational policies, we strive to influence systemic change that will have lasting impact.

Looking ahead, our goals include launching mental health professionals training, expanding research initiatives, deepening our involvement in policy and advocacy work and developing cultural awareness training for other care professionals.

By centring the needs of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller+ individuals and empowering professionals from within the Therapists Network we hope to create meaningful change in the mental health landscape. Our comprehensive and forward-thinking approach not only advances equity and builds a brighter, more inclusive future.
